The pollution of subtle atmosphere – a fatal situation

The world we live in is primarily divided into two parts – one is the apparent and the other is the subtle. The subtle world is not visible to us, but its vibrations constantly influence us. The invisible is infinite times more powerful than the visible. Wise people say that the power of subtle world is extraordinary; to the extent that many of the happenings in physical plane are influenced by the subtle vibrations. These days, we see an atmosphere of retrogression and downfall in the individual and social life of the physical world. In spite of the latest advancements, we are being plagued by dangers and disasters. Frenzy of war, flood of crimes, dangers due to nuclear weapons are creating a situation of imminent danger. It is to be seen if some unwanted elements have not made their way into subtle worlds because of which such poisonous conditions are prevailing in the physical world. The pollution in the subtle world is more worrisome than the atmospheric pollution.

The solution must also be subtle

In such a situation, what treatment methods can be applied so that the situation improves and atmosphere gets refined? How can the elements which propel man on the wrong path and let him meddle with the biosphere harmonies be corrected? We see stark difference in the lives of people. There is extravagance somewhere and there is a tide of animal instincts in a bid to meet both ends meet somewhere else.

History is the proof

It will be better if we understand this with a couple of examples from our history. During the war in Lanka, asuras were vanquished, but the subtle world was still full of poison. Hence there was a need to cleanse the subtle realm. That is why Lord Ram made lakhs of people in Ayodhya do Japa and he also performed 10 Ashwamedha yagyas. After the war of Kurukshetra, the evil kings like Kansa, Duryodhan, Jarasandha were made to bite the dust. But the subtle atmosphere was full of negativity. To refine this, on the advice of Lord Krishna, japa and anushthans were conducted in several areas. A grand Rajasuya yagya was also arranged. Hence, in reality, collective anushthans are capable of cleansing the subtle plane.

Collective experiments and treatments are most efficacious

There is extraordinary power in collectivity. The oneness of purpose of several people makes it manifold effective. The various similes like ‘drops make an ocean’, ‘threads make the cloth’ or ‘bricks make the building’ – all go to prove that the progress achieved through collective efforts is very great. Whenever any process takes place in resonance, its fantastic reactions can not only be seen in subtle worlds but also in physical world. Collective prayer has the power of reversing the tide in the subtle plane and turning the impossible into a possibility. If the futurologists predict that there will be a dawn of a new golden era where heaven-like atmosphere would prevail, it can be a reality because of our collective efforts.

There is a need for spiritual strength in the form of group

All these examples have been cited to establish the immense power of group effort. If all Muslims can do Namaz at a definite time, if all Christians can pray in a church on Sundays, if a military can do retreat, then why can’t we all join hands and do a spiritual task - Maun ahutis (Silent oblations) in the form of indirect yagya for the refinement of atmosphere. If at all there is a solution to the fear, terrorism, rigid thinking, evil and danger, it is possible only at a subtle level. If the pranic energy, similar thinking, immense potency of sound of several people is concentrated at a particular time in the form of japa or yagya, it forms a special subtle treatment method which can show extraordinary effects. Such experiments have been done in the past. Now, within the coming months we have to do many such experiments throughout India as well as around the world as our offering to the Birth Centenary Celebrations.

The unique experiment of sound energy

Since the beginning of creation till this date, no other mantra has been chanted as much as Gayatri mantra. The subtle power of the sound of Gayatri mantra is prevalent in the atmosphere and reverberates as ‘OM’. In such a situation, the power of the sound uttered becomes two-fold. Similar vibrations influence each other. The energy of sound is capable of not only influencing human body but the entire world. This emanates from our mind and soul. When sadhaks with elevated life style begin to do mantra japa, it has the power to transform the present vitiated atmosphere into that of purity, sublimity and harmony. ‘Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat’, ‘agne naye supatha raye’, ‘aano bhadrah kratavo yantu vishwatah’ – all these mantras offer a deep prayer for the entire world to think noble thoughts and to tread on the path of righteousness. Same thought forms create a similar flow of currents.

‘Gayatri mantra is the world’s smallest, but the most potent religious scripture, philosophy and spiritual science. All principles related to the organization of golden era have been loaded in this mantra in their seed form. It will not be an exaggeration if you can call Gayatri mantra as the constitution of the new era. Whenever the framework of the new world is to be formed, it will be based on this ancient and evergreen Beejmantra. - (Param Pujya Gurudev, Akhand Jyoti, August 1983, page 33)’ The right way to act is to start a series of pragya purascharanas in the entire world, whose effects will be visible very soon.

Destruction or creation

Distorted thinking and corrupted character have spoiled the invisible atmosphere of the subtle world. Nature has lost its inbuilt harmony which is manifesting as natural calamities. Because of seasonal changes, some areas are suffering from drought while some other areas are receiving abnormally high rainfall. Earthquakes and epidemics have become far more frequent. Mental disorders and diseases are also on the rise. There is visible lack of kindness, compassion and humaneness in personal conduct. Lust has increased. War-mongers and terrorists are in ascendance. There is a widely prevalent sense of insecurity. There seems to be danger of being submerged in water or sometimes in snow. It appears as though we are approaching imminent apocalypse.

“But the Creator will not let it happen like this. He has maintained this Earth, its natural resources and humanity with great love and interest. Since the beginning of creation, such crisis has come several times, but He has been able to avert it in good time. He has been able to reverse the flow of tide. The dark clouds of destruction are undoubtedly looming large on this planet Earth, but it is a certainty that the wheel of time will move back to its original state. The atmosphere of ‘Satyug’ is going to be established. This is the appropriate time for this change.” (Akhand Jyoti, November, 1988, Page 60)

Spiritual methods will be effective

If we have unwavering faith in the words of our Gurusatta, then during this critical juncture of Yugsandhi (period of transition), we have to adopt these collective spiritual experiments. The evil-destroying power of Goddess Durga also had emanated from the collective energies of different gods. Mother Sita was born out of the blood of seers. Dharmachakra Pravartan of Lord Buddha was also achieved by the collective spiritual power of Bhikshus (monks). The satyagrahis of Mahatma Gandhi were capable of bringing freedom to India, while the penance of Ramana Maharshi and Sri Aurobindo was able to avoid the destruction of the world. Noble souls and sadhaks of the level of arch-angles alone can make the prophesied Golden Age a reality .

To accomplish this task, a series of collective spiritual sadhanas and experiments have been started throughout the nation and the world from Ashwin Navratris. In the name of ‘Shatabdi Sadhana Mahapurascharan’, this program has been launched with the ritvijs, varanis and participants from chaitra navratris itself. But the plan is to launch this movement in all Shaktipeeths, Pragya sansthans, Gayatri Chetana Kendras, Satsang Bhavans, Pragya-Mahila mandals as an organized 2-year long collective sadhana. This task can also be accomplished through a few selected people doing the collective purashcharan for a shorter duration or by involving larger number of people from various places.

Yugsandhi Mahapurascharan

Param Pujya Gurudev, during the last few months of 1980 had started a 20-year sadhana. Later, he induced a special pace into this sadhana and gave it the form of a collective sadhana with the name ‘Yugsandhi Mahapurascharan’ which was started in November 1988 as a 12 year-long sadhana. It was the single-most grand sadhana of those times in which millions of people participated. This 12-year long sadhana has been a very significant milestone in the history of our mission. During this period, continuous Gayatri Anushthans were performed in the Gayatri Teerth. All the parijans were requested to come to Shantikunj at least once during this period and complete a 9-day anushthan so that they could be a part of this great collective sadhana and reap its benefits. This was also proclaimed by Gurudev as a means of building a shield of protection around oneself. In this sadhana, Gurudev gave special importance of ‘Meditation of Savita (rising Sun)’ or ‘Suryopasthan’. The sadhak was to experience the Ojas, Tejas and Varchas of the Savita and feel that he is embalmed in the consciousness of the Sun. The key point in this meditation was to surrender oneself to Lord Savita.

Special benefits

Everyone is aware of the several milestones achieved to depict victory of divine culture (Devsanskriti Digvijay) during this period of 12 years of Yugsandhi Mahapurashcharan – Akhand japa was conducted all over India, the soil of India was worshipped in each and every village and Aswamedha yagyas were performed all over the world; the first purnahuti was performed in Aanwalkheda (Agra), the birth place of Pujya Gurudev in November 1995; the second purnahuti was conducted in the pilgrim centre of Haridwar during November, 2000 by lakhs of people. It was a turning point for the mission. It took new resolutions and welcomed the 21st century. Series of Sanskar Mhotsavs and Deepa yagyas were performed all over the country. Activities at Gayatri Teerth continued expanding. To awaken the consciousness of youth, a unique university, Devsanskriti Viswavidyalaya, was established.

The collective experiments of Shatabdi Sadhana Mahapurashcharan

During 2009 -10, we are presently in that phase of time where there is wide acceptance of science of Gayatri and the experiments of Yoga. There seems to be a flood of youth conventions and creative programs. The speed at which materialism grew, one can see that there has been simultaneous growth of constructive groups who are working towards keeping the essence of spirituality alive at the basic level.  There is no dearth of challenges, but the single most effective antidote to the bane of materialism that is visible in the horizon is to revive the ‘Shatabdi sadhana Mahapurascharan’ as prescribed by our revered Gurusatta, with a view to deal with the critical situations to be faced by humanity in the coming three years.

How to do? What to do?

Wherever Gayatri pariwar is active, wherever our people have a dedicated place, a unit of this mahapurashcharan sadhana should be established. If it is not possible to do the sadhana on a daily basis, people should gather at least twice a week on Saturdays and Sundays and complete the sadhana. People can also do this at their homes. The appropriate time could be Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Sun should be invoked in the form of five earthen lamps and incense sticks. Japa could be done for 30 minutes followed by collective chanting of Gayatri mantra for 15 minutes followed by Gayatri Stavan (yanmandalam…). This entire procedure should be over in one hour. Those who want to do it for a longer duration can do so. The latter half of this sadhana is ‘Gyan yagya,’ in which the literature by Pujya Gurudev is given to each participant so that he/she can in turn make five other new people read these books. If new people come and participate in the subsequent week, then this process would continue to expand. Then the venue can move to a bigger place like a temple. We could also discuss with other like-minded organizations and use their offices or centres. Stickers of sadvakyas can be stuck and banners also could be displayed as part of this program.

Each and every parijan should participate

The cleansing of invisible worlds has become a necessity owing to the imminent dangers that are threatening us today. To achieve this, it is essential to use the ‘Shabdabhedi’ arrow of Gayatri mantra. Gayatri mahapurascharan that is being done in the penultimate year of centenary celebrations is an organized and collective effort so that the benefit of sound energy of Gayatri and Sun’s consciousness reaches each and every human being. If a mass danger has to be averted, collective sadhana is a must. This is the responsibility of each and everyone, more so the parijans of Gayatri pariwar who are well-versed with the ideals of the mission. When the combined effort of noble people is exerted, its effect is bound to show concrete results. This Shatabdi Sadhana Mahapurashcharan should continue uninterruptedly till the end of 2012. We will not stop till the golden rays of the new era are visible. Our other programs will run as usual, but each and every parijan will participate in this movement and visit Shantikunj at least once in a year and perform a 9-day anushthan. The power of this sadhana will be the foundation stone for the new era and will mark the beginning of a great movement that will establish India as a torchbearer of spiritual awakening of humanity.

- Dr Pranav Pandya
